Regarding COVID-19

Today, the World Health Organization declared the corona virus, COVID-19, a global pandemic. There are two cases of COVID-19 in the eastern part of Michigan and, as of today, there are no cases in Kalamazoo County. There is a lot of misinformation going aroundand we understand that you may have growing concerns about the virus. First, we want to put your mind at ease with some basic tips to stay healthyat this time:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Stay home when you’re sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue. Throw the tissuein the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

  • Wash your handsoften with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

We also want to assure you that we are taking appropriate stepsto keep our patients and our staff safe. Many of our standard protocols for patient care in our practice rooms (e.g. replacing linens, disinfecting surfaces, etc.) would go a long way to prevent or reduce the likelihood of exposure. Here are additional things we are doing to keep the Acupuncture Center of Kalamazoo clean and safe:

  • Our common areas (reception, conference room, etc.) are routinely disinfected.

  • Our acupuncturists and staff members wash their hands often; particularly prior to orfollowing an acupuncture treatment.

  • We are suspending handshakes as a sign of greeting (please don’t take it personally).

Please remember that, at this time, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low. There is not widespread circulation in most communities, including Kalamazoo. The world isgrappling with an issue of enormous scale and human impact, and our hearts go out to all who have been affectedby the outbreak of COVID-19. We will continue to respond to the latest on COVID-19 with patient safety top of mind.Updates will be posted on our Facebook page and our website as necessary.
